The team behind Machine Guard Insurance

We are a specialty agency that writes one class — machine shops and manufacturers — under the Wexford Insurance, LLC umbrella. This page is who we are and why we built it.

Why Machine Guard Insurance exists

Machine Guard Insurance is a specialty brand of Wexford Insurance, LLC, built for the machine shops and manufacturers that make and machine the parts and products the rest of the economy runs on. We are not a general agency that happens to write a manufacturing account now and then — we write this class specifically, and we place it with carriers that actually want the work. We have built coverage programs for 100+ manufacturers and machine shops, and that focus is the whole point.

The insight the brand is built on is simple: a contract machine shop and a product manufacturer look almost nothing alike to an underwriter. One works to a customer’s print — machining, cutting, welding, and fabricating to spec on parts that belong to someone else — where the risk is centered on the equipment that runs the floor and the precision the work is held to; the other makes and sells its own finished products into the market, where the defining exposure is products liability — a defective product that fails downstream after it ships — along with the recall that pulls product back and the federal regulation some sectors carry. A policy rated to a generic "business" misprices one model and leaves the other exposed. We separate the work and rate each to what it actually does — and we treat the lines the class lives on, products liability built into general liability and machine and equipment with equipment breakdown, as core rather than as afterthoughts. That focus is the whole point of Machine Guard Insurance.

Manufacturing is also a multi-state, federally-regulated business — shops add capacity, ship product across state lines, and pick up customers and supply contracts with their own insurance requirements, on top of federal sector regulation (the FDA for food and medical-device makers, the ATF for firearm makers) that varies by what you produce. We are licensed across 48 states and place coverage through a 20-carrier specialty panel, so coverage fits the class wherever your facility and your customers are. Whether you want to talk through a renewal, a new venture, or a supply contract that just landed on your desk with requirements you do not recognize, that is a conversation we have every day.
